A rare item may turn up at one of the largest train shows, or offers in given year, perhaps few times on during year. C6-very good-minor scratches and paint nicks, minor spots of surface rust, free dents, may have parts replaced.
A roof from later much less expensive Morris box car would also be correct for this and bring it back to full originality, if you desired that. Since photos can't show everything, I inspect each item and use RCA grading standards. C8-like new-may have been run c7-excellent-all original, minute scratches and paint nicks, no missing parts, distortion of component parts. Know what you are buying upon.
Frame, wheels couplets ARC 5 with some minor surface rust oxidation. Retro roof is ex c7. I specialize in only American Flyer and have been a collector RCA member for more than 42 years. It also features the short lived separately applied handles on doors, a very attractive feature.
It has great lithography with lithographed vertical lines to simulate the wood construction of real boxcars at time.
For very rare items, perhaps one might show up in all venues over the course of a year, sometimes none. This hard to find box car was the second that AF made and only one offered at time.
It is all original and complete except has a reproduction roof. RCA standards apply to viable cosmetic condition and not operating. C5-good-sign of play wear:with scratches and minor paint loss, small dents, surface rust, evidence heavy use.
It is equipped with the correct, very early hook couplets.
